3k more gets you a Macan.

What's the difference between this and a "Base" Macan? the glk starts at $38k. Are they comparable? Or do you need to configure the magan up to $60k to be comparable?

Meh, somewhere in the middle. We looked at these, but then realized a fully loaded CX-5 is a little over $30k where the GLK starts at $38k and is smaller. But Mercedes.

There are only 2 problems;
1) The BMW X3, Audi Q5, Range Rover Evoque, Porsche Macan, and Volvo XC60.
2) The most underwhelmed I have eve been with a new luxury car was sitting in one of these. The interior just felt so cheap, so un-Mercedes like. However, the lady across the street from me has that exact car, and she loves it, so take that for what you will.

Yeah. It's only base.

CP. Having been in one, the quality isn't even that good.

I'd pick the Evoque personally. I think. What would you pick.

I like all of them. Probably the Evoque or the Volvo. Or the Macan, which is fun. Or maybe even the Q5. I might even do an X3.
Just not a GLK.

This is true.

Evoque 2dr more specifically! It just bothers me that it's FWD based, and has a ford engine.
![]() 07/22/2014 at 17:17 |

I suppose, but I would buy the 4x4 and get over the engine.
![]() 07/22/2014 at 17:21 |

I have no idea. But the Macan will definitely drive better.

I know, but I think that a luxury SUV should be RWD based personally. I'm sure the Evoque handles ok...
![]() 07/22/2014 at 17:22 |

Try an X3 then.
Trust me, handling is nowhere in the GLKs repertoire.
![]() 07/22/2014 at 17:24 |

But BMW stereotype! I'll buy a Tesla model III before I'd buy an x3

Definitely true.

Okay, buy one of those. I may be wrong, but I am thoroughly convinced that the GLK is the worst car in its class.

personally I'd get an off lease ML and save a few $
![]() 07/22/2014 at 17:28 |

True. The interior of my aunts c class doesn't feel that nice, I assume it's similar I'm the GLK.

What is maintenance like with the Ford engine? Or reliability?
![]() 07/22/2014 at 17:29 |

It's probably better than if LR developed something.
![]() 07/22/2014 at 17:34 |

That's my point. If you buy an entry level LR, it would make sense for entry level maintenance.

My parents once got a GLK350 loaner when they took the CDI in for service. I got to drive it around.
It's mediocre at best. I would never even consider one.

We get these as loaners when I take my parents cars in for service. They aren't that bad. Very solid build, but this isn't an Evoque, or a Macan. Nor is it trying to be. Before I bought my BMW, I thoroughly and repeatedly tested the Evoque Pure Plus, and found it really fun, but the build quality was lacking. The Audi is long in the tooth, as is the X3 (although recently refreshed for 2015). The Macan is nice, but not for me.

^This. They have a softer suspension, and more body roll than even a Lexus RX. Not to mention the most disconnected steering feel of anything I've ever driven. The ML is the same way. I was really disappointed. I assumed they would be more BMW like handling wise.

I know they're in no way similar, but I'd get a Grand Cherokee Limited or Overland depending on what trim level $46k gets me. The GLK just doesn't do it for me.
